Merriman & Company, Certified Management Accountants is registered (in accordance with Society of Management Accountants – Code of Ethics 501 and 508(4).
Lee Merriman graduated on the honour roll of Martin Collegiate, Regina, Saskatchewan, in 1983 with the third highest average that year which resulted in a University Scholarship. From the fall of 1983 to the spring of 1985,he attended the University of Regina on a full time basis and worked in the summers only. The summer job of 1985 reversed things, whereby, he worked full time and fit in University classes in the evenings.
December 2, 1989, would alter his career path as, despite his intended avoidance of the field, he began work with Greystone Business Consultants Ltd. o/a Robertson, Stratychuk, & Partners as a junior accountant. He started with personal tax returns; and due to an interest, he was asked to take on network administration. Success with the network resulted in the Company taking on a Laser computer brand franchise in which computer hardware and software support was provided. Within a few years, he was the senior personal tax preparer; intermediate corporate bookkeeper; and, junior corporate year end staff member in additional to his computer responsibilities.
By May of 1995, he had 7 years work experience, a Network Administrators certificate via Novell, a Bachelor of Administration degree (received after the 2 full-time and 10 part-time years of study), a Certified Management Accountant designation (received after 2 years of study and proven work experience) on the educational level. At the work experience level, he was the: senior personal tax staff member doing 800 personal tax returns per year; senior corporate staff member doing 55 of the firms most complicated clients; and network administrator of approximately 35 workstations.
In May of 1995, he was contacted by a Swift Current CMA firm who was offered a two year contracted position with the City of Swift Current providing there were two CMA’s – one with a high degree of computer knowledge. In July of 1995, he arrived in Swift Current where he spent the next two years largely working for the City of Swift Current in the areas of: re-designing the utility billing system; expediting the accounts receivable payment system; writing the City’s Purchasing manual; and developing a customer relations infrastructure.
At the end of the two year contract, July of 1997 witnessed the launch of Robin Hood Management Ltd. and Merriman & Company. In the early years, large contracts with Swift Current companies like REM Manufacturing (Chief Financial Officer), Prairie West Financial Services Ltd (Corporate Controller), and Husky (Corporate Accountant) provided steady revenues while our reputation built with the smaller entities. After only two years (1999), the smaller corporate clients had grown sufficiently to warrant a permanent office resulting in the renovation of 100 – 26 Central Avenue N, Swift Current, SK.
2003 saw us restrict our clientele to “referral only” and we opened our Yorkton branch on a limited basis. A notable statistic of our first 10 years is that we have AVERAGED 22.45% annual growth. As we planned for, our new corporate headquarters was built in Emerald Park for 2008, random chance resulted in our re-location to 15 Dufferin Street W after the structural collapse of Central Avenue N. We closed out 2008 with the acquisition of Krahn Financial Services, a 20 year firm in Swift Current. As of the fall of 2010, our Swift Current branch will relocate to our own building at 228 Central Avenue N and we will combine the Yorkton branch into our Emerald Park branch.
